Game Guidelines

Coaches should always use good judgement and common sense when coaching their team and dealing with parents on the sidelines. If you have questions about coaching, player or parent issues, or other soccer related questions, please direct them to your club director or the appropriate PYSL board member. You can locate their phone number and email on the Contacts page. Take a few minutes to review the PYSL game guildelines and rules:

  • Games without a Referee will NOT be rescheduled.
  • U10-U14 Coaches shall resolve how to ref the game in the event no referee shows up (e.g. each coach refs a half, ask knowledgeable parents to ref, phone refs they know who may be available, etc...).
  • A game must be played no later than 10 minutes past the scheduled game time.
  • For the good of the game, be as fair as possible and keep it safe for all.
  • Refer to the rules for your age group under the Documents section at the bottom of this page.

The Recreation HOME team is responsible for suppling the game card. Print your team information clearly, sign it on the HOME team section, and have the Visiting coach do the same. The card should be ready to hand to the Referee before the scheduled start time. You can print out your team player list on the Team Setup Card page and paste it on the card.

Referee Rating

After you play a game, you can rate the performance of your Referee when you report your game score or from the Team Setup Games page. This information is used to help our Referee program improve. Please try and rate every game.

U10 Program Changes

The goal of PYSL Recreation soccer is to provide a kid-friendly environment that is focused on having fun, equal player participation and the development of soccer skills.

  1. All players must play equal minutes during all league games.
  2. A player can play no more then 1/2 the game at the same position.
  3. Scores and standings will not be kept by the league.
  4. Coaches are to make all attempts to limit blowouts by substituting players or position changes.
  5. The U10 City Cup Tournament will be replaced by a year end Jamboree.

Team Websites

All Coaches need a website login to access and setup their Team Website. You can request a login from your Club Director or by sending an email to the Webmaster. Each Coach is responsible for distributing your Player website logins. You can print these out from your Team Setup Logins page. See your Team Setup Help page for more information on setting up your team website.

To add an Assistant Coach to your team, the Assistant coach must completely fill out an Adult Registration form. You can pick up the forms at the Registrar's house, located at 1712 Pine Avenue, Petaluma CA 94954 , in the top drawer of the file cabinet on the porch. Write the Coaches name and Team number at the top of the form and return it to the bottom drawer of the file cabinet.
